The basic austenitic grades, including generally used steel, are grade 347 and grade 321, which have an addition of niobium and titanium for stabilisation, respectively. They give very good resistance to intergranular corrosion at temperatures in the range of 425-850 °C, with their use after post-weld heat treatment even possible.

Grade 321 is not only a strong grade but also one with resistance to scaling in aqueous environments, making it optimum for uses up to 900 degrees Celsius. Where higher temperature tolerance is required, grade 321H with a higher carbon content addition must be considered for better strength.
