Zinc rich primer

Zinc rich primer is a protective coating formulated with a high concentration of metallic zinc dust combined with epoxy, polyurethane, or inorganic binders. It is applied directly to properly prepared steel surfaces before intermediate and topcoat applications.

Unlike conventional primers that simply create a barrier against moisture, zinc rich primers provide active corrosion protection through a process called cathodic or sacrificial protection. Because zinc is more electrochemically active than steel, it corrodes first, preventing rust from forming on the underlying metal.
