A star delta starter is used to start three-phase induction motors, minimizing initial electrical overload by starting in star' configuration and then switching to 'delta' when reaching a particular speed. The Star Delta Starter requires a motor to be in the delta linked position during a regular run, with the primary goal of being able to use the starter. When the motor is idle, it functions similarly to a short-circuited transformer on the secondary side because all of the rotor bars are connected to form a closed channel. This will cause a significant current flow via the rotor bars.
